Las Vegas Hotel Tips

I have been to Las Vegas many times. Each time I go, I've stayed at a different hotel. Each hotel has something different to offer its guests. Each person that goes to Las Vegas has something different they want to do. The things you are going to do in Las Vegas should help you select the hotel and casino you will stay at.

First lets discuss the three main types of trips visitors take in Las Vegas.

1) The tours vacation. This is the vacation where you spend most of your time exploring the giant hotels and casinos. There are a unbelievable number of things to see in Las Vegas and near Las Vegas. The Hover Dam is a great half day trip to the dam. The tour of the dam is a little more restricted since 9/11, but still seeing the dam is amazing. I would not take a tour bus to the dam, because the bus stops many times before reaching the dam. Not really worth spending the extra time.

2) The show vacation. This is the vacation where you see a few shows and see a band at the hotel bar.

3) The gambler vacation. The gambler will spend most of their time in a casino, therefore they do not require a beautiful suite in an expensive hotel. I would not spend the extra money on a nice hotel, unless I want to gamble in that hotel's casino. The gambler just needs a place to recharge for a few hours, so they can get back to the casino table to win back their money.

The hotel to stay in is based on the type of vacation you are planning in Las Vegas. Here are my suggestions for the hotels to stay in:

1) The tourist vacation; stay at the Luxor. The Luxor is a very large hotel and casino, but it also has many fun adventures inside to keep your attention. In the Luxor, there is a lot of attractions to explore.

2) The show vacation; stay at Caesars Palace. Caesars Palace always has the best shows in house and nearby. Not to mention the excellent shopping mall in Caesars Palace.

3) The gambler vacation; stay at the MGM Grand they have excellent deals on their basic room. The casino floor is huge, which mean many open tables. This gives you a chance to move from table to table if you luck cools off with a new dealer. Also, the MGM's mall and dinning are a great place to eat. you will be able to eat fast and get right back to the tables after a short meal. I like to go eat when I am up money. It is much more enjoyable to eat on the house than using your own money to pay for the meal.

Some of you are saying wait a minute, what about the great odds at the downtown or off the strip casinos. I say well, I am on vacation, so why not enjoy the hotel and casino. What I mean to say is, the casinos and hotels are much nicer on the strip than downtown. The Golden Nugget being the exception to the rule.

Another reason is safety. I grew up as a city boy, and when I am in downtown Las Vegas, I always feel the need to look over my shoulder. I know Las Vegas is safe for the most part, but there is something about downtown and off the strip that makes me feel less safe.

So, remember think about what you are going to do in Las Vegas, before you book the hotel. It can save you a lot of travel time and money.

Another question people ask is do I need a rental car in Las Vegas, or should I go without one to save money. Read my other article on "Should I rent a car or not."
